But "quiet" doesn't mean boring—late summer and early fall offer incredible local events, pristine beaches, and the beginning of the famous west coast surf season.

Late Summer Events on the West Coast

The west coast of Puerto Rico (Porta del Sol) is known for its deep cultural roots and local festivals. While the massive winter festivals are still months away, August and September feature smaller, authentic community events.

• Local Patron Saint Festivals (Fiestas Patronales): Various towns across the island celebrate their patron saints during these months with live music, carnival rides, and traditional food kiosks.
• Agricultural Festivals: As the harvest season approaches, look out for local agricultural fairs celebrating island produce. (Keep an eye out for Isabela's famous Carnaval de la Yuca, which typically happens in October but often has build-up events in late September).
• Rincón Art Walk: A year-round staple, the Thursday night Art Walk in the Rincón plaza (just a short drive south of Isabela) features local artisans, live music, and a vibrant community atmosphere.

The Transition to Surf Season

August and September mark the transition period for surfing in Puerto Rico. The calm summer waters begin to pick up the first early swells of the fall. Jobos Beach in Isabela is one of the most reliable spots on the island during this transition, offering fun, rideable waves without the heavy winter crowds.
